I wanted to try the new Laos-China high speed train.

For that, you have to get off the thai train at the terminus at the Thai border. Cross the border, then take a short laos local bus to Vientiane. In Vientiane, you take another bus to the train station where you can buy the Laos-China train ticket.

Long story short, you have to stop in Vientiane, so I decided to stay a few days there to explore. But I quickly realized the city was not very walkable and did not have much to offer. The touristy places in Laos, Van Vieng and Luang Prabang, are not for me. Luckily, I found 2 diplomat-level quality foreign restaurants in the embassy neighborhood close to my airbnb and hangout there for the rest of the trip.

Suzette

As soon as I saw the name, I knew I was going to like it.

It conveys a sense of quality with authenthicity and simplicity. And of course it's a famous type of French crepe.

This place was an absolute gem. Comfy, relaxing and delicious. One of my top 5 restaurants in Asia.

Osseman German restaurant

The other gem of the trip.

I have never been a big fan of German food, but this changed my opinion!

Often in cafes around Asia, when they have sandwiches, you get questionable quality meat, one or two veggies, too much crappy sauce and tasteless bread (if you are lucky).

This sandwhich was so good, simply because of the quality of the ingredients and the harmony of the mix.

Fresh local yogourt

Amazing local fresh yogourt + local marmelade.
