When I travel, I now look for these things:
- A bright, affordable studio with a view
- A quiet place to work, ideally a library
- A place to run
- Easy access to local and foreign food options
I rarely find a place that meets all those criterias. Chiang Mai crushed them.
I found my home close to Chiang Mai University (CMU). A 10 minute walk to the University Library, a running track, and food options for students.
Between my 2022 and 2024 trip, I came here 6 times, for a total of 5 months.

CMU Library
An incredible library.
Spacious, comfortable, bright, surrounded by nature, with beautiful views.
This month was a university vacation, so it was super quiet.

Mangosteen
On this trip I discovered mangosteens, the Queen of fruits.
They can be a bit hit or miss, especially abroad, but when in season in Thailand, they are delightful.

Inthakin festival
An annual celebration of the city's ancient pillar, Inthakin, kept at Wat Chedi Luang, the main historic temple in the city center.
The pillar is seen as a protector of the city. It protects from misfortune and helps bring a good rainy season and a successful harvest.
